- Tooth extractions and root canal treatment when necessary
- Gum disease diagnosis and treatment to protect your gums and bone
- Oral cancer screenings for early detection and peace of mind

Frequently Asked Questions About General Dentistry
How Often Do I Need to Come In for a Dental Cleaning and Checkup?
Most adults benefit from a cleaning and exam every six months. If you have active gum disease or a history of frequent cavities, we may recommend visits every three to four months. If you have gone longer than a year between visits, schedule as soon as possible to catch any developing issues early before they require more involved treatment.
What Are AI-Assisted Digital X-rays and Are They Safe?
AI-assisted digital X-rays use computer analysis to help identify early decay, bone loss, and soft-tissue changes that might otherwise be missed. They deliver significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays and produce clearer images that Dr. Hirschenberger can review chairside with you during the visit.
Does the Practice See Children for General Dentistry?
We welcome patients of all ages. Children benefit from the same six-month exam and cleaning schedule as adults, and starting preventive care early builds healthy habits that last a lifetime. We encourage parents to bring their children in once their first teeth emerge or by age one.
What Happens if a Cavity or Problem Is Found During My Exam?
If decay or another issue is found, Dr. Hirschenberger will explain exactly what was found, what your treatment options are, and what happens if it goes untreated. Most minor cavities are addressed with a tooth-colored composite filling placed in the same or a follow-up appointment, depending on your schedule.
Can I Come In for a Same-Day Appointment if I Am in Pain?
Same-day emergency cases are prioritized. Patients experiencing a toothache, broken tooth, swollen jaw, or other urgent dental problem should call 219-836-8316 immediately. We operate an after-hours on-call answering service for urgent situations outside normal Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Friday 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM business hours.
