Meet Dr. Anthony Hirschenberger

Resolving Problems and Delivering Healthy, Vibrant Smiles

Having the ability to improve a person’s life is gratifying. For many patients, enhancing their health and appearance can be a life-altering experience, and that is the appeal of dentistry.

With proper dental treatment, my team and I are able to transform a patient who may be insecure about their teeth and oral health into a person that exudes confidence ... all by changing their smile!

I’ve been practicing dentistry since 1983. Over the years, I have been honored to meet, care for, and become friends with many people. I appreciate being able to interact with people of all ages and different walks of life. I learn much from what my patients share and find our conversations help to shape me into a better person.

My Team

My team is the reason for the success of the practice. They share my values and are compassionate and thorough, and truly care about the well-being of our patients as individuals.

We treat each patient like family. Because we’re not a “high volume” practice, we have the time and freedom to provide dentistry on a personal level: working with patients rather than dictating a particular treatment path. Instead, we take time to explain each procedure and all the options thoroughly. We never recommend any unnecessary treatment, and keep our patients engaged in their dental care.

Education

  • Bachelor of Science  Loyola University, 1979
  • Doctorate of Dental Surgery  Loyola University School of Dentistry, 1983

The practice of dentistry is constantly changing, so it is vital that I stay current with the latest technologies, techniques, and research. I take a wide range of continuing education courses every year, to ensure that I completely understand the newest options and how they can improve results and the treatment experience.

I am a board-certified fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry. This designation is earned through extensive postgraduate education and rigorous evaluations. I have also completed the Level IV Continuum at the Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education and am a contributing member of the Spear Dental Study Club.

Professional Memberships and Activities

  • American Dental Association
  • Indiana Dental Association
  • Northwest Indiana Dental Society
  • Chicago Dental Society

I served as a member of the Northwest Indiana Dental Society board of directors and trustees for nearly a decade and was the dental director for the Lake County Indiana Correctional Facility. I am currently a mentor dentist for Cerecdoctors.com.

Beyond the Office

I was born in Chicago, grew up in Dolton, Illinois, and moved to Indiana after completing dental school. My wife Barbara is a board-certified Diplomate in pediatric dentistry and has her own practice. I have two sons, Tony and Mark.

My favorite times, outside of those with family and friends, are when I’m woodworking, making wine, or enjoying the outdoors.

I really enjoy fixing things and making something from what was previously nothing. I am passionate about precision and doing things the right way, with no shortcuts; always working toward an end result I can take pride in.

That is why I am passionate about dentistry. In many cases, I am able to resolve a patient’s problems and provide him or her with a natural-looking, healthy, and vibrant smile!
